Join our volunteer medical team and help children with kidney disease safely experience the independence, connection, and fun of summer camp.
Kids Camp relies on dedicated medical volunteers such as physicians, nurses, residents, and fellows to make overnight camp possible for every child. Volunteers provide essential care while supporting campers as they participate in daily activities and build confidence alongside their peers.
When: August 2-7, 2026
Where: YMCA Camp Copneconic – Fenton, MI
Registration is open from April 1 – June 30.
Qualifications & Requirements
Physicians
- Board-certified pediatric nephrologist
- Active license to practice medicine in Michigan
- Proof of medical malpractice insurance
Nurses
- Registered Nurse with an active Michigan license
- Pediatric experience preferred but not required
- Nurse Practitioners: proof of medical malpractice insurance
Residents & Fellows
- Medical school graduate currently enrolled in an accredited postgraduate program in pediatrics or nephrology
- Proof of medical malpractice insurance
All Volunteers
- Experience in nephrology, dialysis, and/or renal replacement therapy
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Attendance at mandatory pre-camp staff training
- Commitment to all Kids Camp policies and procedures
Your Role at Camp
As a member of the medical team, you’ll help ensure campers can safely participate in all aspects of camp life.
Responsibilities may include:
- Monitoring and recording vital signs
- Administering medications
- Supporting peritoneal dialysis or accompanying campers to hemodialysis
- Following standing orders and guidance from the on-duty pediatric nephrologist and/or Director of Nursing
- Providing first aid and CPR as needed
Accommodations & Amenities
Meals and lodging are provided for all medical volunteers.
There’s also built-in downtime to enjoy the camp experience alongside campers and fellow staff. Wi-Fi is available, making it easy to stay connected and attend to occasional personal or professional needs.
Medical volunteers are housed in the Health & Wellness Center, which includes private rooms, showers, and air conditioning. The space is comfortable, quiet, and designed to provide a place to rest and recharge between activities.
