Enhance®Fitness

EnhanceFitness is a physical activity program for adults designed to improve functional fitness and well-being. Functional fitness means staying strong, balanced, and flexible to retain the ability to do the daily activities of life that you normally would do. 

In-Person Enhance®Fitness Workshops

How it works:

  • One hour classes held 2-3 days per week for 16 weeks
  • Limited to 30 participants
  • Must be 18 years or older to participate

EF Remote

The NKFM is offering a limited number of classes online for those who qualify. 

What is EnhanceFitness Remote?

EnhanceFitness Remote is a fitness and falls prevention workshop which helps older adults do everyday activities with more balance, energy, and strength. Instructors adapt moves for many fitness levels and make it fun! Classes are offered to participants via Zoom in the comfort of your own home.

How it works:

  • Each EnhanceFitness Remote workshop is limited to 15 people. Reserve your spot on a first come, first served basis.
  • One-hour classes held 3 days per week on Zoom for a total 48 classes.
  • Classes available Mondays – Fridays.
  • Participants must:
    • Be 18 years old or older.
    • Have a computer or a tablet with internet access

About EnhanceFitness

Enhance Fitness is an evidence-based program tested and studied to show its effectiveness for older adults. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that adults should do at least 2.5 hours of moderate-intensity exercise weekly, and they need opportunities to enjoy physical fitness activities  specially designed for their needs.

Regular exercise has been found to decrease the risk of developing chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension), osteoporosis (thinning bones), heart disease, and depression. Seniors can improve their health and maintain their independence so they may age in place longer.

In-person Enhance Fitness classes are held three times a week at various locations throughout the state. They give people an opportunity to exercise and socialize with their friends. Classes focus on balance, strength, endurance, and flexibility exercises and are adjustable to all levels of fitness. They are taught by certified fitness instructors specifically trained in Enhance Fitness procedures and the program. The program is taught the same in each location, and the classes contain all components of the program to ensure a standardized delivery.

Staying Healthy at a Distance

Are you a current EF participant and would like to stay physically active while classes are postponed and you don’t qualify for EnhanceFitness Remote? See below for some helpful links and example videos. As always, please be sure to be safe while you exercise and consult your doctor to decide what is best for you.

Become an Enhance Fitness Instructor

Empower adults to change their lives! Enhance Fitness Instructors (EFI) deliver the Sound Generation’s evidence-based Enhance Fitness program using curriculum developed by Project Enhance. EFIs help participants improve functional fitness and well-being.

EFIs receive training and certification to implement the program and do not need to be fitness professionals, although this is preferred. Session pay varies based on experience. EFIs should be able to commit to teaching for at least one year. Weekly time commitment varies.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and in front of a group
  • Ability to build relationships with individuals and create community within a group
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people of varying ages, ethnicities, life experiences, etc.
  • Active listening skills
  • Enthusiasm and a positive attitude
  • Knowledge of basic health, nutrition, and fitness principles
  • A sense of rhythm
