Healthy eating plays a major role in preventing and managing kidney disease. SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits will be paused November 1st, and the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) is here to help connect individuals and families with the resources they need to stay healthy.

Whether you’re looking for ways to make kidney-friendly meals or need help accessing affordable groceries, local programs across Michigan can provide support.

  • Lighthouse Home Mission: Warming Center: Provides food and clothes for those in need and provides referral assistance when needed.

  • Salvation Army Wayne Westland: Pantry provides food and basic hygiene items. We also offer fresh produce, bread, and other donated items to the public regardless of income and without an appointment. Call 734-722-3660 for more information.
  • Detroit community fridges: Stop by at any time to pick up/drop off food. These fridges are in different neighborhoods in Detroit. For more info check out, visit https://westvillagedetroit.org/fridge.
  • Wayne Metro: Food Support: Offers a variety of Food Support programs to individuals and families in Wayne County.
  • Forgotten Harvest: Updates daily for mobile food pantries and has other information on other food pantry locations, shelters and soup kitchens
