Thank you to everyone who joined us on a beautiful Sunday morning for our Michigan Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo! Click here to see the team photos.

The Kidney Walks have been an integral part of our fundraising world since 1996. Since that time, the Kidney Walks have grown into an almost $1 million/year extravaganza in Michigan, and happen throughout the country!

The registration website is the same as the 2022 walk. If you registered in 2022, the website will remember your log in email, and ask you to enter your password from last year to register. Everyone must register to participate in the 2023 Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo. If you are a new participant, you will be asked to create a log in and password when registering. For more registration tips, check out the 2023 registration guide.

Register for the 2023 Michigan Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo today!

Day Of Information

Parking: The gates to enter the Zoo for parking and registration open at 7:00 a.m.  Zoo entrance gates open at 7:30 a.m.

Zoo Walk Participation Fee: Our hope is that each walker will play a significant role in helping us reach our fundraising goal of $367,000. If each walker raised an average of $100, we would surpass our goal, and be able to provide even more programs and services to the people of Michigan living with chronic kidney disease. The Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo is our largest annual fundraiser, and 90% of proceeds go directly to our programs such as Kid’s Camp, Emergency Fund, Enhance Fitness, and many more.

Festivities Include:

  • Zoo Admission
  • Free parking
  • Complimentary food and beverage
  • Children’s Area with crafts and giveaways
  • Scenic route through the Zoo. In fact, we encourage our walkers to leisurely stroll through the Zoo and enjoy all the animal exhibits

Each walker 2 and older will need to obtain an admission ticket to enter the Zoo for the Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo. Sorry, Zoo memberships can’t be used for the Walk.

Kidney Beanz Team
Meet Sharon Wroblewski

On August 15, 2021, Sharon Wroblewski’s Kidney Walk team, the Kidney Beanz, participated in their 10th Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo, where they raised money for the NKFM.

The Kidney Walk remains important to Sharon. “I walk to honor my father who died of kidney disease, to bring awareness about PKD and to raise funds to find a cure.”

Announcement Regarding the Greater Lansing Kidney Walk and Grand Rapids Kidney Walk

The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan wants to thank you so much for your past participation in the Greater Lansing Kidney Walk and the Grand Rapids Kidney Walk.

As we look back over the past two years, it’s evident how much the pandemic has changed the way we fundraise, offer programs, and help those most in need. As we look ahead to the best ways to continue our work, it is clear that we need to change our strategy for fundraising in this new time.

Because of this, we have decided to no longer hold the Greater Lansing Kidney Walk and the Grand Rapids Kidney Walk. We truly appreciate your support of these two Kidney Walks over the years.

You can still support the NKFM by joining the #1 Kidney Walk in the country, in person on Sunday, May 21 at the Michigan Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo. With more than 4,000 walkers expected, food, games, prizes, plus the animals, it is a wonderful place to have a great time while raising money for a good cause.

Want to walk but prefer to stay closer to home? Participate in the Michigan Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo virtually on the same day by joining walkers from across the state online. The NKFM wants to embrace connecting with all walkers across Michigan. So, for the first time ever, our Walk Opening Ceremony will be broadcast live online for anyone to view.

Please contact Brian Christy at bchristy@nkfm.org if you have any questions about the Michigan Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo.
