Location:
CHASS Center, Inc., 5635 W Fort St, Detroit, MI

In observance of National Kidney Month in March and World Kidney Day on March 14, 2013, the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) has partnered with Gift of Life MOTTEP to provide free health screenings in southwest Detroit. Screenings will be offered from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the CHASS Community Health Center located at 5635 W Fort St. All Detroit-area residents ages 18 and over are encouraged to attend.

Screenings will be available for high blood pressure, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease. Nearly 1 in 9 Michigan adults has chronic kidney disease, but most don’t know it because there are little or no symptoms during the early stages. In Detroit alone, approximately 80,000 people have kidney disease. Diabetes and high blood pressure cause approximately 70% of all kidney failure cases in Michigan. In most cases, kidney failure may be prevented or delayed with a healthy lifestyle.

It’s important for Detroiters to know their risk for diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease in order to live quality, healthy lives and avoid future life-threatening health concerns. Click here for more details.
