The Champion of Hope Tribute Dinner celebrates the strong collaboration between the NKFM and the State of Michigan and provides an opportunity to recognize champions for a healthier Michigan. Two state legislators and two inspirational leaders will be honored as the 2013 Champions of Hope. This year’s honorees include State Senator Morris Hood III, State Representative Mike Callton, D.C., and Michael R. Hourani, M.D.. In addition to the Champion of Hope Awards, three awards will be presented for Innovations in Health Care. This spectacular event is well attended by more than 200 people representing the health care community, state government, and community organizations. The evening also features a cocktail reception, delicious strolling dinner, and raffle extravaganza. Innovations in Health Care Awards
The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan and its partners offer three awards for innovative treatment or prevention programs at the Lansing Champion of Hope Tribute Dinner. The awards are presented to programs across the state in the categories of:
- Projects related to Michigan’s 4x4 Plan and Implementing 4 healthy behaviors (4 Healthy Behaviors – healthy diet, regular exercise, annual physical examination, and quit smoking)
- Projects related to knowing 4 Healthy Measures (body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, cholesterol level, and blood sugar (glucose) level)
- Projects related to chronic kidney disease, dialysis, and transplantation.
